We are reminded we have so many friends to visit in the middle bay, we don' know if we'll make it to the lower bay.
Departing Delaware City at 8:45 am Saturday, we motored the C&D Canal west to the Chesapeake Bay.
The C&D Canal empties at high tide from the east end to the west end and downward to the Chesapeake Bay. The Delaware Bay, on the right, empties down the bay, so the currents at the east entrance can be interesting, as the canal and the DE Bay can be on different tide tables.
Our departure time was chosen so we'd have the outgoing tide going with us, pushing us to 8 knots to start with. You're not allowed to sail in the canal, so shipping traffic is not concerned. When we entered the Ches Bay, the wind was on the nose for most of our trip, only sailed for the last few miles. We arrived in Magothy River at 5:15. About 50 miles.
Next day departed Magothy for West River to have one of Claire's co-worker's jump on mid-day. Picking up our guest from Stan and Joe's Riverside boat-in restaurant, a very nice Nordic Tug owner helped us get our guest aboard, since all the slips were full.
Sailed to Thomas Point Lighthouse and back. (Since we were busy with the lines when the wind picked up and the iced tea pitcher almost fell over, I borrowed this photo from a previous trip)
Anchored again, outside the restaurant, we chatted, then launched the kayaks, paddled to shore and I towed the 2nd one back.
The river was full of traffic with all kinds of boats. The DNR Police were busy.
The restaurant provided some evening music to the anchorage before the evening calm. It's so nice being out in nature, seeing the sunset every day.
