Maiden voyage for our new vessel!

Sailing Claire's RC Hurricane Sailboat from the Delaware City Town Dock!
Ha-HA did ya think we got a new boat?

Above, you can see Justice in her slip, top left.

This remote control racer was a SUPER nice retirement gift to Claire from BoatUS Publications and Membership Departments, a great creative team that keeps all 25+ member benefits available! This BIG ship, a "791-2 Hurricane" - is taller than I am has great graphics by ... BoatUS Graphics, of course!

On the voyage, the Delafort makes an appearance. The Delafort takes people to and from Fort Delaware.

Dave was very helpful, having RC Airplane experience, and he has built many RC planes.
The remote control has 3 sensitivity settings
and we can recenter the rudder with the remote as well.

"Tow-ClaireUS" was ready for any groundings... and yes there were some by the mudbank.

We sailed close to slack tide on the old branch canal. To get to the dock, Dave walked the ship to the town dock, while Claire paddled the kayak from Justice to the town dock, about 100 feet.

Days get shorter, but lists of places to go get longer

Sailing to Sassafras River

Anchored at the Sass

Departing Delaware City Old Branch Canal, (for Corsica River, off Chester River, Ches Bay)

Departing Delaware City 5:30 -ish am, passing town dock below, Mid June. The cell phones really pick up the light, making it seem lighter than it really is.

Passing the Delafort, the ferry that takes ticketholders to Fort Delaware and Fort Mott in NJ if they wish to go there.

Heading out of the branch canal

looking back. The Delaware State Parks building on the right.

looking south...heading south as we pass Green 1.  You can see the green flashing from our house upstairs.

Not too hot to sail for us!

June 22, 2024
Thank goodness for friends who can sail on a moment's notice. It's been a hot week,
but there is always promise of cooler evenings.

Golden Deck

We got up at 5:30 am to beat the heat a few days last week to clean and apply Semco teak UV protection to the deck. Now it is evenly toned to a golden brown. Looks like freshly sanded.

There was some taping involved as you don't want to get it on the white paint, unless you wipe it off right away. Next year is repainting the white again, which is super picky stuff to apply with curing times and avoiding drips.

Next Year's Dates are April 25-27, 2025

Learned about preparing for ocean races
like the Annapolis to Bermuda race.

Rigid inflatables with wheels are appearing. This is not a Mantus, but the Mantus dinghy has drinkholders! Check it out here: https://www.mantusmarine.com/mantus-dinghy/
